Given my last post, I felt guilty for criticizing somebody else’s prediction for the coming year without posting my own. So, here goes.
- If you don’t differentiate your product it will fail.
- If you create your product based on a unique idea that people actually want, amazingly it’ll require less advertising.
- If your advertising’s great, but your product sucks, it will fail faster.
- Bad and boring advertising will continue to cost much more than great advertising.
- There will be less toleration for social media hucksters and shysters.
- There will be less toleration for people who write things like, “Communications technology is now the enabler, source and subject matter of human entertainment as a result the concept of the “Avatar” has crossed the chasm into mainstream culture and branding.”
- “Awesomeness” will no longer be considered a measure of social media ROI.
- The false line drawn between “old” and “new” media and “traditional” and “digital” will continue to be erased as people come to the realization that it’s all just media after all.
- Some will have an epiphany that mobile is just the internet in disguise.
- The parrots and bleating sheep will continue to say things like, “It’s all about the conversation” until certain social media celebrities finally realize that it’s actually all about persuasion and publicly admit it.
- The big idea will make a comeback defeating millions of little ideas.
- Happily, the term “Social Media” will be renamed “that digital thingy.”
