Some friends compared last nights gold medal hockey game to the 1972 Canada, Soviet series. I disagree. Although the game was important to the country, we were playing against friends. Some may say friends make the greatest rivals when pitted against each other. Perhaps so, but after its over, wouldn’t you rather lose to a friend? The US can certainly hold its head high, what a great team.
There’s no comparison to the ’72 series. At the height of the cold war, Canada played against the pompous evil empire. And defeated them.
